Cairns In The Desert
Spiritual Direction by Elizabeth Lyman
I once served at a church located high in the Sandia Mountains.
Back in the 19th and early 20th century, the people of the village
there had to make an arduous eight-mile trek down the
mountain side to the larger town far below in the valley.
There were cairns set near the trail; each stone monument was
used to mark one's path and offer the traveler a place to sit, rest
and contemplate the journey.
In the desert of our own experience, spiritual direction
is much like those cairns in the desert.
Places to pause and reflect as we each seek
to discover where God is leading us...
I welcome you and pray for blessing
for your own journey.
